Andie Crosby, RKC
Growing up, Andie was determined to keep up with her cousins and brother, all of whom excelled at all sports. That early determination and the constant physical activity eventually paid off – earning her a spot on the Ohio All-State girls’ volleyball team and playing two years of colleague volleyball. Professional life set in and while she remained involved in various sports, the idea of “training” for something became a distant memory. Thus began a 20-year cycle of gaining and losing 10-15 pounds at a time. She would hit the dreaded gym and make progress for a month or so and then slowly return “back to normal” – only to begin the whole process over and over again.
Once Andie and her husband moved to Santa Fe, she began playing competitive tennis earning injuries caused by stopping, turning, impact and quick acceleration. She worked with Keira for only two months, having to stop because she started commuting to a new job. Finally, at the beginning of 2010, finding herself heavier than ever, too injured to play tennis competitively and humiliated with the yo-yo weight cycle, Andie called Keira again and made a commitment to change. And here is where her health and wellness transformation took place.
Between February 2010 and June 2010, Andie lost 25 pounds and went from 30% body fat to 21.5%. With Keira’s encouragement, she became fearless and tenacious about learning more about health, nutrition and fitness and practicing what she learned. She took a deep breath, signed up for RKC, passed with flying colors in August and began teaching at DKB in October.
The experience of going from feeling powerless and passive over her own health and wellness to feeling powerful, knowledgeable and motivated inspired Andie to become DKB’s first goals coach. Andie and other key members of DKB’s team have developed a system and way of thinking about training that provides needed support, encouragement, motivation, knowledge and advice to help our members overcome their own hurdles and plateaus. She constantly tests the system on herself as she continues to refine and rewrite her goals, which at their basic level are to become a better athlete and a more knowledgeable and inspiring goals coach for the DKB Community.
